Blessed Laura Vicuña

I was born in Chile, in 1891. My father was a soldier and when the civil war began, we moved to Argentina to be safe. My father died when I was two years old, so my mother tried to find a way to support me and my sister. She started working for a man called Manuel Mora. I was sent to a missionary school. I loved to learn about my faith and spent time learning. When I asked to join the convent, I was declined, because of my young age. Mora turned his attention to me. I refused his advances and he beat me badly in 1904. I died a week later from the physical injuries he inflicted upon me. I was twelve years old.
