Saint Perpetua

I was born in North Africa. I was a well-educated young woman living in the city of Carthage, in today's Tunisia. My mother was a Christian and my father a pagan. I followed my mother's example and loved Jesus very much. Despite my father’s opposition, I spoke of my faith to others without fear. At the age of 22, I was imprisoned for my faith. In prison, I took care of my infant child and endured all the tortures designed to make me renounce my faith. My slave and young friend Felicity was with me. I remained strong until the end, and did not renounce my faith. I died in the arena in a public spectacle.
