Biography

I was born in Chile in 1900, and given the name Juana. Reading the autobiography of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux had a great impact on my life. At the age of fourteen, I desired to consecrate myself to Jesus as a religious with the Discalced Carmelite nuns. In 1919, I entered the convent and was received as a novice that same year. I was given the religous name “Teresa de Jesus”. During this time, I wrote letters which radiated my love for Jesus. I lived a life of prayer and sacrifice. Unfortunately, I fell sick with typhus. As I was nearing my death, I was allowed to make my religious profession. What a glorious day! I died five days later, just before my 20th birthday.
