Blessed Stanley Rother

I was born in 1935, in Oklahoma City, USA. I was the eldest son of a family with five children. My parents were Catholic farmers and my childhood was spent between attending our Catholic school, the parish and assisting my parents at the farm. After finishing high school, I understood that God wanted me to become a priest. My studies at the seminary were not successful at all. I had poor grades, but one day I met the bishop. He saw potential in me and I was sent to study in another seminary. With a new force within me, I managed to finish my studies and was ordained a priest. After five years of service in my diocese, I was sent out as a missionary to Guatemala. There I helped the indigenous people to find the faith and get an education. With the revolution, the government of Guatemala saw me and the other missionaries as a danger and we were executed.
